A superb entry for our January Show and Sale of dairy cattle with many farmers filling the sale ring ensuring a very strong level trade throughout creating an incredible average for the 38 top quality cows and heifers of £1995. Heavy yielding cows were in particular demand with the top 15 cows averaging £2030. Top of the day was £2420 for our reserve champion from Messrs MG and JM Holland of Umberleigh with “Hilkleigh Buttercup 149” a Comestar Export daughter fresh with her second giving 36Kgs. Closely followed from the same vendor was our second placed cow “Hilkleigh Pearl 350” achieving £2300. What a great day for the Holland Brothers with Messrs MJ and JM Holland’s consignment from his “Hilkleigh herd” averaging £2256 and Messrs N and C Holland and Sons consignment from their “Slade herd” averaging £2008. Our third placed cow Loford Goldwyn Caye 5 PI” a second calver from Messrs MJ and JE Wade of Bideford sold well to £2280.

The winner of the Blonde Society's competiton for the highest price Blonde sold through Holsworthy Market during October was won by long term supporter of the Market, Harold Jones of Pyworthy.
