Our last Auction of the year saw excellent prices for the 850 Catalogued Antique lots on offer. Suprise of the day was a Royal Worcester china candle snuffer selling well in excess of its Price Guide. Measuring only 3 inches high furious bidding in the room and on the telephones brought the final selling bid of £1050. Among the furniture a huge Victorian mahogany dining table which extended to 162" sold at £2000, a black oak carved chest on stand sold at £1300, a gilt framed triple mirror at £1000 and a pine kitchen dresser at £420.

Clarence Roe oil painting sells at £1700
THURSDAY 17th NOVEMBER 2011
Our Quarterly Collectors Auction of over 1100 lots was another busy and very successful Auction. In the Paintings & Prints section an oil painting on canvas by Clarence Roe of The Broadwood, Ingleton, Yorkshire was keenly contested from an opening bid of £300 to the final winning bid of £1700. Other oil paintings included an O Jernberg at £400 & Watteau School at £420. A Batchelder watercolour sold at £320 and a woolwork picture of a sailing ship sold at £130.

Another Record breaking Auction at Holsworthy Auction Room
FRIDAY 16th SEPTEMBER 2011
Kivells Auction Room at Holsworthy on Friday 16th September was the setting for a record breaking auction. Estate Executors instructions for house clearances from St Germans, Launceston and Bude made up the bulk of the lots on offer. Highest price of the day was for a two stone diamond crossover ring with approximately 1.7 carats in the main diamonds and others to the shoulders. The ring was sold after furious bidding for the impressive price of £3500.

Fiat motorcar sells at £1700

Our monthly General & Antiques Auction of 1050 lots included a Fiat Punto 1200 car with only 25000 miles on the clock. Spirited bidding soon saw the car outstrip the Guide Price to sell at a reasonable £1700.

Slide Rule sells at £3800
FRIDAY 12th AUGUST 2011
Our Quarterly Collectors Auction of over 1200 lots was again full of interesting & varied items, including a Fullers cylindrical slide rule. The slide rule was designed in 1878 by Professor George Fuller with the logarithmic line in 50 turns giving a much extended working length of 41 feet 8 inches. The slide rule was an early rare example with interest prior to the auction raising the Guide Price to £1000-£1500. At the Auction an avid collector from America was outbid by the eventual bidder in Chester at £3800.

Our monthly un-catalogued Auction had the usual variety of items including a Mercedes Van. We were instructed by the County Court to sell the X reg Mercedes sprinter van without reserve. The price guide of £1000-£1200 was very quickly passed with the winning bid being £1800.

Our Regular un-catalogued Auction attracted a huge entry of 1350 lots.

The entries included mainly household furniture & effects together with some lesser Antiques. Retro furniture is certainly commanding higher & higher prices these days with items that only a few years ago were being sent to the dump. An example being a nest of light oak coffee tables that a few years ago would struggle to sell at £5 which at this Auction sold for £110.

Worcester Plaque sells at £1350
FRIDAY 17th JUNE 2011
A Worcester 4 inch diameter porcelain plaque painted in 1904 by Richard Sebright who was considered to be the finest fruit painter at Worcester sold at Kivells Holsworthy Market Auction Room for £1350 to a buyer in the room against strong bidding on the telephones. Another Worcester plaque of similar size painted by Harry Davis sold at £500.

Over 1000 Collectors lots sold to a packed Auction Room

This Auction saw a very good trade in all sections with a Collection of Dinky model cars, vans and other accessories sold in 36 lots with pride of place taken by the Bedford van No. 923 with Heinz baked beans advertising. It was in fair condition with some paintwork scratches & sold with its original box at £135. Other Dinky prices included Pullmore transporter & Leyland Cement wagon each at £40, Euclid truck £30, Recovery tractor £28 and the whole collection selling at £530.

Over 1200 lots ranging from T G Green Cornishware china to a huge Victorian mahogany clothes press to gold and diamond jewellery to a pair of stub axles were sold on the day to an enthusiastic crowd over the whole 6 hours of the Auction.

Exceptional Auction Results

On 11th March Holsworthy Auction Room was the venue of a record breaking Auction of 814 lots of Antique Furniture, Silverware, Oriental Porcelain & Ivory, Jewellery & Bijouterie. The final sale total was an all time record for the Auction Room with outstanding prices achieved throughout including £800 for an oriental carved ivory fan, a Victorian parasol with burwood glass & enamel handle selling at £950, a Dutch marquetry bureau also at £950 and a famille Verte Chinese bowl at £440.

This was our Monthly un-catalogued General & Antique Auction which was attended by a huge crowd of enthusiastic buyers eager to purchase the 900+ lots on offer. First to be offered were 20 lots of Portmerion china from one vendor. The whole consignment sold at just under £400 with top price of £34 paid for 6 dinner plates.

A book dating from 1690 entitled Geography & Maps with illustrations by John Seller measuring only 4 inches by 2.5 inches sold to a buyer on the telephone against strong bidding in the room and left bids on the Internet. At our General & Antiques Auction a 1950's oak framed Bar Billiard table sold to a local buyer against another local bidder who were both determined to purchase the Table. Bidding started at £100 & soon reached the expected sale guide of £400-500 and carried on to the excellent final sale price of £1100.

Hunt scenes china gallops away at £450

The well known equestrian artist Lionel Edwards was commissioned by Soane & Smith of Knightsbridge to decorate china with colourful Hunting scenes. On offer at this Auction was 23 pieces with many being either chipped or crazed. Despite the damage furious bidding took the initial bid of £100 very quickly to a very good selling price of £450.

Dining Table exceeds all expectations

On Friday 11th June Kivells Quarterly Select Antiques Auction of over 700 lots saw excellent results in all sections. Star lot of the auction was a Victorian mahogany extending dining table 117” x 60” with 3 extra leaves and could accommodate more leaves. Several bidders took the initial bid of £1000 speedily to the excellent sale price of £2600 to a telephone bidder from South Devon. Also in the furniture section a good quality inlaid mahogany rotating bookcase sold after some very spirited bidding in the room from the expected £200-300 to a magnificent £700 sale price. A Georgian mahogany small chest of four drawers, 30 inches wide sold in the room against strong competition on the telephone for £800.
