Bullfrog hops to £500
At Kivells Auction at Holsworthy on 12th April of Select Antiques & Collectables a Burmantofts majolica, grotesque bullfrog, spoon warmer sold to an internet bidder in the UK. Great interest was shown prior to the Auction and despite slight damage to its toes the guide price of £200-£300 was soon eclipsed to sell at the excellent price of £500.
Also in the China section a Clarice Cliff Aurea 8 piece tete a tete tea set sold at £650, a Royal Albert Lady Hamilton tea set at £220 and an Aynsley Indian 1932 presentation coffee set sold at £340.
A collection of Valerie Pitchford 18 carat gold jewellery was well sought after with a chain necklace selling at £650, pearl earrings at £180, pearl drop earrings £140 & Lapis Lazuli earrings at £140, Other jewellery included a 9 carat gold curb chain bracelet at £250 a 9 carat brooch & pendant at £100 & a Jade and 15k gold bar brooch at £160.
Among the silver an Oriental foliate embossed jardinière sold at £320, an 1868 Exeter Bath Regatta mug at £240, 1871 acorn vinaigrette at £170 and an 1852 tankard by John Keith at £280.
In the Collectables a Chinese ivory figural chess set with some damage sold at £460, Chinese fruitwood group at £300, walnut writing slope £100 and an oriental Kimono jacket & skirt at £170.
Furniture showed signs of revival with a Pine kitchen dresser at £380, an oak 1950’s drop front kitchen cabinet at £260, Elm Suffolk carver chair £260, pair Chinese Altar chairs £380, and Chinese scribes table £300, with 2 pieces of quality reproduction Belvedere oak selling well with the 6ft 6in table selling for £400 and the dresser base at £380.
