'Trereive' Flock Dispersal
The highlight of the February In-Lamb ewe sale at Exeter Livestock Centre was the “Trereive” flock dispersal of pedigree Devon & Cornwall Longwools from Jim Candy of Downderry, Cornwall. Pens of four or five scanned in-lamb ewes (with at least 150% pedigree lambs inside them) due early March sold to tops of £200, £180, £170 (x2), £165 (x3) & £160 for the younger ewes and to £135, £130, £125 & £110 (x2) for the older ewes. The 50 females averaged £155 and the aged stock rams sold at £210 & £150 to their new home in Berkshire.
Speaking after the sale Jim Candy expressed his delight “The demand for my in lamb ewes was amazing, with seven purchasers from all across the south of the country creating new flocks or adding to existing ones. It proves that this Rare Breed has found a commercial niche, and I am glad that I have done my bit to help preserve the breed. I would like to thank members and officers of the Devon and Cornwall Longwool Breed Society, the buyers of my sheep and all who played a part in organising such a successful dispersal sale.”
