Triumph Trophy roars away
Kivells held a collectors auction at Holsworthy on 20th March being instructed by the Executors of the late Derek ‘Derry’ Jones of Sutcombe to offer his Triumph motorbike, two Ventriloquist dummies and other stage related items.
First up was his Triumph Trophy TR25W 250cc motorbike which was his pride & joy, having rallied and ridden all over the West Country on VMCC runs. Many prizes were awarded including the Dorset Steam Fair. Great interest prior to the Auction and a room full of enthusiasts saw the bike sell at the magnificent sum of £3,000.
The Ventriloquist dummies ‘The Vicar’ & ‘The Squib’ were next up with furious bidding on line in the UK & in the United Arab Emirates took ‘The Vicar’ to a fantastic selling price of £1,100 and ‘The squib’ to £210. Posters of local shows, Derry’s scripts, props and other theatre items sold in lots at £270.
Another vendors motorbike was also keenly contested being a 1921 Royal Enfield Flat Tanker which also sold really well at £3,100.
Also in the auction of 820 lots were a collection of American Police patch badges sold in several lots to £635.
Among a good selection of Military items an East & West Africa 1895-6 medal sold at £210, USA.M.I Carbine at £370, Pilots helmet at £100, Malacalaza dagger at £200, Flintlock pistol at £135 and 2 WWII posters at £90-£95.
In the coin section of 180 lots a 1907 half sovereign sold at £100, 1975 Bermuda 100 dollar at £200, USA 1805 1 cent at £120, Greek Athenian owl at £130 and a 1732 half-crown at £135.
Books & paperwork included March’s Children’s booklets selling at £120, 1630 Epistles to Thessalonians at £145, Moggs new map of London at £180, cricket & footballers autograph book at £200, Bristol & Military postcards at £95, 22 Devon postcards at £70 and an autograph book including Bruce Forsyth at £65.
Other items included a Riley Joe Davis snooker cue at £130, Cyclemaster engine at £85, Bachmann OO engines & tenders at £50, £70 & £65, Mamod model steam engine at £50, Ashbury mandolin at £70 and finally a collection of display swords at a total of £260.
